Eleanor Garrow-Holding Honored for Commitment to Health Care and Nonprofits

The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honored Eleanor Garrow-Holding, FAACT founder and its current President & CEO, as a 2015-2016 Woman of the Year. The group recognized Eleanor with this distinction for her leadership in the healthcare and nonprofit industries.

Like any mother, Eleanor’s priority is to make sure her child is safe and healthy. Her son, Thomas, has life-threatening allergies to tree nuts, wheat, and sesame (he recently outgrew his peanut allergy) as well as asthma, environmental allergies, and eosinophilic esophagitis triggered by milk and wheat. For the past 11 years, Eleanor has worked, educated, and advocated for the food allergy community.

With more than 700,000 members and over 200 local chapters, NAPW is the nation's leading networking organization exclusively for professional women. “I’m pleased to welcome Eleanor Garrow-Holding into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her selfless work and personal courage is helping and inspiring thousands of people diagnosed with life-threatening food allergies and their families.” 

Today, Eleanor and the FAACT Leadership Team provide critical education, advocacy, and awareness serviced needed by families living with food allergies. As President & CEO, Eleanor provides leadership, development, and implementation for all of FAACT’s initiatives and programs, including Camp TAG (The Allergy Gang) – a summer camp for children with food allergies and their siblings that she founded in 2009.

Eleanor earned a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Lewis University and worked in hospital management in Chicago for 15 years before taking her experience to nonprofits and founding FAACT. She serves on the National Food Allergy Management & Education Advisory Board, the National Peanut Board’s Allergy Education Advisory Council, Sea World’s Allergy Resource Team, and the Association of Food and Drug Officials Food Allergen Control committee.
